Turn old gadgets into new opportunities at Chard Community Hub
Report by Duncan Williams for Pulman's Weekly News
Chard residents are being encouraged to dig out their old and unused tech as the town prepares to host a special Tech Amnesty at the Chard Community Hub on Saturday 16th August.
From 9.00am to midday, the popular Repair Hub will be joined by the Fixy van - a county-wide initiative supporting repair, reuse, and digital inclusion. As well as offering the usual support for household items in need of attention, this one-off event will also accept unwanted technology such as smartphones, tablets, laptops and digital cameras.
The collected items will be passed on to Donate-IT, which ensures all data is securely wiped before refurbishing and redistributing the devices to people and organisations who need them most.
“We’re delighted to welcome the Fixy van to the Hub, so that even more items can find a new lease of life at our Repair Hub,” said Tessa Goodridge-Reynolds, Events Director at Chard Community Hub. “It’s also a great opportunity to find out more about Chard Community Hub’s sustainability work.”
The Repair Hub team will be on hand as usual to assess household goods brought in for repair, while the Fixy van team focuses on unwanted tech.
The initiative is part of a wider effort to keep valuable resources out of landfill and promote a culture of reuse in Somerset.
