Spring concert brings baroque brilliance to Axminster
Report by Duncan Williams for Pulman's Weekly News
Axminster and District Choral Society will present a joyful spring concert at The Minster, Axminster, on Saturday, 28th March 2026, at 7.30pm.
The programme features two celebrated baroque works: Vivaldi’s vibrant Gloria and the Magnificat by CPE Bach, the most gifted son of Johann Sebastian Bach.
The choir will be joined by professional orchestral players and an impressive line-up of soloists, including soprano Harriet Mountford, mezzo-soprano Charlotte Badham, tenor Sam Dressel and baritone Julian Rippon. Together, they promise an evening of music that combines brilliance, energy and emotional depth.
Fresh from celebrating its 40th anniversary, Axminster and District Choral Society continues its tradition of bringing high-quality choral performances to audiences across East Devon. This spring concert highlights baroque music at its most exhilarating and expressive.
Looking ahead, the choir’s 2026 season also includes a summer concert featuring Charles Stanford’s Songs of the Fleet, followed by a December programme devoted to music by French baroque composer Marc-Antoine Charpentier.
Tickets for the spring concert are available from Archway Bookshop in Axminster or online at www.axminsterchoral.co.uk
