PROJECT PLAY BRINGS ‘THE VICAR OF DIBLEY’ TO CHARD FOR THE FIRST TIME - 🎭
Report by Duncan Williams for Pulman's Weekly News
Chard is set to welcome a brand-new community theatre experience this May as Project Play brings its much-loved production of 'The Vicar of Dibley' to the Chard Guildhall for the very first time.
Performance dates are scheduled for 30th May to 1st June at Chard Guildhall, South Somerset.
Since 2017, Project Play has been staging comedy classics across the South West, delighting audiences in Yeovil, Frome, Weymouth, Chippenham, Burnham, Warminster, and Wimborne. Now, the successful theatre initiative is expanding to Chard, offering residents the chance to enjoy high-quality amateur dramatics while supporting local and national charities.
This year’s chosen causes are Somerset and Dorset Air Ambulance and Comic Relief, reinforcing Project Play’s commitment to using theatre as a force for good. The initiative provides opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved in the arts, whether on stage, behind the scenes, or in the audience.
However, with post-pandemic challenges still affecting audience numbers, organisers are calling on the people of Chard to help make this debut production a success. Matthew Rock, the driving force behind Project Play, is urging locals to spread the word, book tickets, and consider offering support - whether as individuals or local businesses.
“If we can pack out the Guildhall this May, it won’t just mean a fantastic night out - it could be the start of something really special for Chard,” said Matthew. “Bringing regular live theatre to the town year after year would be an incredible achievement, and we can only do it with the support of the community.”
Project Play’s arrival in Chard presents an exciting opportunity for the town to establish itself as a hub for live theatre, celebrating the power of performance while making a real difference to charitable causes.
Anyone interested in getting involved - whether through sponsorship, volunteering, or simply attending the show - is encouraged to reach out to Project Play.
Tickets for 'The Vicar of Dibley' will be available soon, promising an evening of laughter, entertainment, and community spirit.
