A well-known Chard Town Councillor has stepped down from his duties to spend more time with his family, it was announced earlier this week.
Councillor Andy Webb (pictured), who represented the Jocelyn Ward and served as Vice Chair of Chard Town Council, confirmed his resignation during the full council meeting held on Monday, 23rd June.
Speaking at the meeting, Mayor of Chard Councillor Victoria Bates paid tribute to Cllr Webb’s commitment and contribution. “He feels his family needs more attention than the council demands,” she said. “It’s sad to see him go, but he will remain very much involved with the town.”
Town Clerk and Chief Executive David Bell confirmed that Cllr Webb had stood down for personal reasons.
Outside his council work, Cllr Webb is known locally as a driving instructor and has been actively engaged in a number of community causes. Earlier this year, he played a leading role in launching a new initiative aimed at addressing drug misuse in Chard, a campaign that won praise from residents and fellow councillors alike.
Though he has officially stepped back from his council responsibilities, Cllr Webb is expected to continue contributing to local projects and supporting community initiatives.
As per council procedure, a new councillor will be co-opted to fill the vacant seat unless ten or more residents of the Jocelyn Ward call for a by-election.
Residents wishing to express their views or learn more about the process are encouraged to contact the Town Council directly.
