Police appeal after man suffers serious facial injuries in Exeter railway station assault

A man in his 50s has been left with severe facial injuries following a violent attack at Polsloe Bridge railway station in Exeter.
The incident took place shortly before midnight on Thursday, 30th October, at around 11.40pm.
According to British Transport Police, a man was seen getting off a train before walking along the platform and jumping down onto the tracks. He then followed the victim up the station stairs and threw a glass bottle at him.
A physical altercation followed, during which the victim fell down the stairs. The suspect then reportedly stood over him, repeatedly punching and kicking him in the head.
The victim sustained multiple facial fractures and remains in hospital receiving treatment.
Detective Constable Jon Stoodley described the assault as “a shocking act of violence” and urged members of the public to come forward with information.
“This was a shocking act of violence and we are looking to urgently identify the man in the CCTV image who we believe may have information which could help our investigation,” he said.
“I’d also like to appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened or the events leading up to it to get in contact with us. We know the victim may have spoken to a number of members of the public following the incident, and we’d like to speak to them as part of our investigation.”
Investigators have released a CCTV image of a man they wish to identify in connection with the assault.
