Report by Duncan Williams for Pulman's Weekly News
Devon, Dorset and Somerset residents are being urged to prepare for severe weather, as the Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms this Saturday, 7th June.
The warning, which comes into effect at 9.00am and remains in place until 6.00pm, forecasts frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms throughout the day, with conditions expected to ease from the west by late afternoon.
According to the Exeter-based forecaster, between 10 and 15 millimetres of rain could fall within an hour, while some areas may experience as much as 30 to 40 millimetres over several hours due to repeated downpours.
The storms are also expected to bring frequent lightning, hail, and strong, gusty winds, posing potential risks to property and travel. The Met Office has warned of the likelihood of hazardous driving conditions due to spray, standing water and hail, potentially leading to longer journey times by road and bus.
There is also a chance of lightning strikes causing damage to buildings and structures, as well as temporary power outages.
Residents are advised to stay updated via official weather channels and to exercise caution when travelling or carrying out outdoor activities during the warning period.
