Man, 75, dies after being struck by vehicle near Sidmouth

A 75-year-old local man has died after being struck by a vehicle on a country lane near Sidmouth, Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed. The fatal collision has prompted an appeal for witnesses as officers work to establish the full circumstances of the incident.
The collision, which involved a black Range Rover, occurred on Monday, 17th November, at approximately 3.10pm in Under Lane, Harcombe. Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, and road closures were put in place to allow paramedics and police to work safely while managing the aftermath.
Police said the man suffered life-threatening injuries at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where he died a few hours later despite efforts to save him. His next of kin have been informed.
Officers from the Roads Policing Team carried out initial enquiries at the site, and the road remained closed for several hours. Police have not released further details about the circumstances of the collision or whether any arrests have been made at this stage.
Devon and Cornwall Police are now appealing for information from anyone who may have been in the area on Monday afternoon. They are particularly keen to hear from drivers who may have relevant dashcam footage.
A spokesperson for the force said: “Anyone with information or dashcam footage that could help with enquiries should contact police online or call 101, quoting log number 441 17/11/25.”
The incident has shocked residents in the rural Harcombe area, where narrow lanes and limited visibility can pose challenges to motorists and pedestrians alike. No additional local traffic disruptions have been reported following the reopening of the road.
