DEVONSKILLSET EVENT TO EMPOWER EAST DEVON COMMUNITIES TOWARDS A GREENER FUTURE - 💚
Report by Duncan Williams for Pulman's Weekly News
A free, community-focused event aimed at boosting sustainability efforts across East Devon is set to take place at The Beehive in Honiton on Saturday 26th April, from 9.30am to 4.00pm.
Organised by Community Action Groups (CAG) Devon, the East Devon SkillShare is open to the public, community groups, and volunteers, and offers a day of practical inspiration around climate action, waste reduction, and community resilience.
The event forms part of East Devon District Council’s strategy to become a carbon-neutral council by 2040 and is being supported through additional funding to help local groups deliver environmental projects across the region.
The SkillShare will provide a platform for individuals to connect, collaborate, and learn. Visitors can participate in a climate café discussion space, hear from Exmouth Town Council’s Climate Officer, and take part in sessions led by the Mushroom Food Network, who will share their experiences of running community suppers, bread-making workshops, and a local buying group.
There will also be an opportunity to visit the Blackdown Hills Eco Hub and take part in a creative communication session on the climate crisis, facilitated in partnership with the Thelma Hulbert Gallery.
CAG Devon supports a wide range of local sustainability initiatives, including food surplus cafés, repair cafés, clothes swaps, composting workshops, community fridges, biodiversity projects, and beach cleans. These efforts are designed to reduce waste, encourage reuse and recycling, and strengthen social cohesion and general wellbeing.
The East Devon SkillShare event reflects the growing enthusiasm for grassroots climate action, bringing people together to share skills, ideas, and hope for a more sustainable future.
