Weather maps are showing the prospect of temperatures climbing above 25C across Devon and some parts of the South West later this month.
Could summer be about to make a comeback?
Weather maps are showing temperatures rising sharply across the South West from Friday, 25th September, with Devon among the areas forecast to reach above 25C.
According to Netweather maps using GFS data, temperatures could reach 27C in parts of Devon on the Friday, while Saturday could bring even warmer conditions, with highs of up to 28C forecast in parts of the UK.
The warmer spell is expected to develop towards the end of September, with much of southern England and the Midlands potentially reaching above 25C by 3.00pm on Friday.
Devon is among 33 areas currently shown on the maps with temperatures exceeding 25C. Somerset, Dorset, Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and parts of the South East are also included.
The forecast suggests that parts of Devon could reach 27C on Friday, although the South West is expected to be slightly cooler than some areas further east.
Cornwall, for example, is currently forecast to reach around 21C, while temperatures along parts of the South Coast could reach about 26C.
Saturday could bring another warm day, with temperatures reaching as high as 28C in some parts of the country.
The warmest conditions are currently expected in parts of Suffolk and Norfolk, while temperatures in London and other areas of the South East could also reach 27C.
Further north, Cheshire and parts of Yorkshire could reach 25C, while South Wales could see highs of 26C.
Scotland is expected to remain considerably cooler, with temperatures in the teens.
However, the forecast is still more than a week away and conditions could change before the end of the month.
The Met Office’s longer-range outlook for 22nd September to 1st October also points to the possibility of increasingly warm conditions.
It says:
“The first part of this period will likely see a build of pressure across much of the UK, with Atlantic weather fronts becoming more confined to the far north west.
“As such, plenty of dry and increasingly warm and perhaps rather humid weather will develop across the majority of areas.”
For Devon, the latest weather maps offer the prospect of one more taste of summer before October arrives.
